Services
Start where you actually are.
Three ways in, depending on how much the brand has to carry right now. Read the situation each one describes rather than the list of what is in it, and pick whichever sounds most like your week.
Brand Identity Packages
Starter Logo
You’re trading, or about to be, and you need to stop looking provisional. The budget is real and it is small.
You get a mark, in the formats you’ll actually be asked for, and the basics for using it properly.
Basic Brand
You have outgrown a logo you bought cheap, and now everything you make looks slightly different from everything else you make.
You get a mark, a type system and colour, with enough guidance to apply it yourself without checking with me first.
Full Brand
The brand has to hold real weight now. Investors, hires, a market that has never heard of you, or a name that was never right in the first place.
You get strategy and naming first, then the whole visual system and the guidance to run it.
Not sure which one? Describe the situation and I’ll tell you which fits, including when the answer is none of them. Ask me.
How it works
Three phases, in this order. Most of the work happens before anything gets designed.
Look
Before anything gets made, I find out who you actually are. That means auditing what you already have, going through the competition properly, and talking to the people who know you best. Customers, clients, current staff, and the ones who left. It ends with a positioning statement and an audience you can point at.
- Research and insightBrand audit, competitive audit, audience audit, location visits
- Product and serviceFeatures, benefits, value, proposition statement
- CustomerCustomer profiling, customer segmentation, journey and experience mapping, target audience
- CulturePurpose, cause, beliefs, values, direction framework
- PositioningUnique selling point, positioning statement, brand commitment matrix
Make
The words come first. What you’re called, what you promise, what you stand for, and how you sound. The visual identity is built afterwards to carry what the language established, rather than being decided separately and having the words fitted around it.
- PersonalityPersonality traits, tone of voice, do's and don'ts, brand codes
- MessagingVision, mission, promise, tagline, brand pillars, elevator pitch, call to action
- NamingCompany, product, service
- IdentityStyle development, logo system, colour palette, typeface
- Brand assetsShapes, patterns, icons, imagery, mascot
Show
A brand sitting in a guidelines document isn’t doing anything yet. This is where it goes onto the website, the packaging, the van, the stand at the trade show, and everywhere else people actually meet you. The guidelines come with it, so it stays right when you’re applying it without me.
- Brand guidelinesHow to apply the identity consistently, without checking with me first
- Web and digitalInformation architecture, wireframing, responsive design and build, social, online campaigns
- PrintPackaging, stationery, brochure, menu, posters
- EnvironmentalSignage, murals, vehicle graphics, wayfinding, exhibition
- CampaignDigital and traditional
None of it’s designed for me, and it isn't really designed for you either. It's for the people you need to reach. That's why the first phase is the biggest one, because you can't build for an audience you haven't gone and understood.
